We have all watched the one movie our parents told us not to watch because it will give us nightmares. Or have been sitting around the campfire with ghost stories being told. Then later that night our imaginations kick in taking over rational thought, and scaring us to pieces, even though we know there are no such things as ghosts. If I was sitting next to you with a present in my hands, set it on the table and told you not to worry about what it was, you would not be able to stop wondering what was in the box. Or if you decided to stop drinking pop to lose weight, even if you only drank one can a day, you would suddenly be wanting pop all the time.

Or even if someone said they will give you $500 if you don’t think about purple monkeys. Normally, purple monkeys would not be on your mind, but add the $500 into the mix and you might have more trouble not thinking about purple monkeys.

I could go on and on with examples, but the bottom line is simply the more you try to resist something the more it stays with you. So, when coming up with an affirmation it is extremely important that it is worded in a positive manor or all you will be doing is drawing negativity to yourself and that is not what you want to do.
