How to Meditate: Become a Master in 30 Days

The best way to do this is to break the month down into four timeframes, gradually increasing your knowledge of how to meditate until you can meditate like a master.

Days 1-5

The first five days is about raising your awareness about what things are always on your mind. You are going to want to take a bit of time every day to just be quiet. There really isn’t any objective the first five days. Let your mind wander, but be aware of the random thoughts you have. Don’t analyze them or try to stop them, this is the first phase of creating the ability of meditation.

Days 6-10

The next five days is to teach your mind to enter the quiet ‘alpha’ stage which is also known as the hypnotic state. In order to do this, lie down on your back and hold one of your arms at a 90 degree angle with the rest of your body. The purpose of this is to wake you up if you doze off; your arm will fall waking you up. You will also want to continue to observe your thoughts.

Days 11-20

During days 11-20 of learning to master meditating you are going to begin to weed out the random thoughts from your head. To master this, acknowledge the random thoughts by saying them out loud.

“I need to buy toilet paper.”

“I am thinking about running.”

“I need to call my Mom and tell her about the news story I saw this morning.”

By stating the thought out loud you will notice it disappears from your consciousness. Remember to continue to lie down and keep your arm at that 90 degree angle, so if you start to doze off your arm will wake you up. By the end of this set of 10 days you will be ready for the last 10 days of meditation.

Days 21-30

This stage brings all the other stages together. You will be refining your ability to stay in a hypnotic state, by clearing any ideas that pop into your mind, by saying them out loud. The only goal here is to be completely relaxed in: mind, body and spirit.

By the end of this set of 10 days you will begin to see the benefits of better sleep, your levels of stress will lower, you will be able to concentrate better and you will have more focused willpower.
