How to Use Affirmations Effectively

Affirmations are a great tool, but if you do not know how to use them effectively then you are pretty much wasting your time.

There are several “rules” to follow when creating a proper affirmation. So, increase the odds of having effective affirmations by reviewing the guidelines below.

1. Creating a good affirmation

An affirmation needs to be stated in the present tense. Don’t set the affirmation into the future. Your brain will not follow the concept of time. You need to give it dates to solve that problem. You should also try to avoid using “I will”. Stay present, use “I am”. This shows your brain you want it now. For example:

“I am getting healthier every day.”

“I am improving my style each and every day.”

You also want to be careful not to make untrue affirmations. If you are not a millionaire, don’t say you are. Instead say:

“I am getting wealthier every day.”

2. Say it with feelings

If you say an affirmation like you would recite a list of facts, you are wasting your time. You need to show some attachment and feeling for your affirmations. If you have nothing emotionally invested in your affirmation your subconscious will basically ignore you.

When you say your affirmation say it with a confident tone. Use your body to help too, sit up straight, take in some deep breaths, and try saying them while walking around. Equally important is to use your mind to really focus on what you are saying. Block everything else out and have just the affirmation you are saying on your mind.

3. Keep at it

You have to be consistent. You can’t say your affirmation one or two days and expect any results. You have to do it not only daily, but more than once. Try to do it right when you get up in the morning and right before you go to bed at night. It can certainly be done more than that but at least twice a day.

Try putting your affirmations on index cards and carrying them in your purse or wallet, so you have easy access to them whenever you have a few minutes.

Set your goals around your affirmations. If you want to be healthier, then set a goal and start by exercising a couple times a week.

Re-affirm when you show yourself that your affirmation is doing its job. If you choose a banana over the candy bar, say your healthy choice affirmation. It reinforces what you are affirming and shows your subconscious that it is working also.

Affirmations are a great tool to help you get where you want to be. However, if you don’t use them effectively you are just wasting precious time in your day. You must create the correct type of affirmation that is stated in the present, when you say your affirmation, say it with feelings, to show your brain that you are passionate about accomplishing your goals, and finally be persistent! You have to say them every day, several times a day in order to use them effectively.
